Google Local Listings – Returns Policy Requirements

To appear in Google Local / Free Product Listings, Google requires a clear and accessible returns policy. This helps customers understand what happens if they need to return an item.

Requirements

You must clearly state:

  • Whether returns are accepted or not
  • Return timeframe (ex: 30 days)
  • Conditions for returns (unused, original packaging, restocking fees, etc.)
  • How customers initiate a return
  • Consistency between your website and Google settings

Products may be limited or excluded from Google listings if a returns policy is missing or unclear.

How Google Uses This Information

Your returns policy may be reviewed from:

  • Your website’s Returns Policy page
  • Google Merchant Cente
  • Google Search Console

Even if configured in Google tools, your website must display a clear returns policy.

Example: Google-Approved Returns Policy

Returns Policy
Returns are accepted within 30 days of purchase.

Items must be unused and in original packaging to be eligible for return.

Some items may be non-returnable due to manufacturer or product restrictions.

To initiate a return, customers must contact the store where the purchase was made for approval and instructions.

Refunds are issued once the returned item is received and inspected.
